The office was created in January 2005 by Governor Mitch Daniels to insure that the faith-based institutions of Indiana were provided equal access to state and federal resources and services. With the establishment of the OFBCI, the responsibilities of the OFBCI were folded in under the auspices of this new office. Together the OFBCI with assistance from the ICCSV, provides information, training, technical assistance and limited grant funding to both community based and faith-based organizations seeking to make Indiana a better place to live for all citizens.The Corporation for National & Community Service

The office provides assistance connecting community engagement with course-based learning. This office coordinates service-learning for Indiana University's Bloomington campus in cooperation with school-based and co-curricular initiatives, such as the Civic Leadership Development program, the Leadership, Ethics and Social Action minor, the community service efforts of the Volunteer Students Bureau in the Student Activities Office and the Residence Halls Association.The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse (NSLC)
